Over 70 companies to be housed at WTM Sri Lankan Pavilion

Sri Lanka tourism will be participating with a strong cross-sector representation at the 42bd edition of the World Tourism Market that will open today at ExCeL Exhibition Hall.

A total of 72 companies will be housed in the Sri Lankan pavilion and host the opening ceremony at 10:30 am with minister of tourism Harin Fernando as the chief guest.Sri Lankan global press conference will be held on the second day helping to carry a positive image of Sri Lanka to the world.

“Tourism has been picking up quicker than we expected and we hope to end the year with over 1.6 million arrivals and a revenue in the excess of 2.6 billion,” said Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chalaka Gajabahu. He also said that by 2030 Sri Lanka expects to attract 5 million arrivals and earn half of its revenue from high end tourists suspending around 800 US dollars per day.

He said the UK has been the third biggest source market for Sri Lanka and the WTM will have to keep this momentum going in the future as well.
