Over 70 polls monitors arrive, more expected

Seventy-one representatives from international election monitoring organisations have arrived in Sri Lanka to monitor the upcoming Presidential Election, according to the Election Commission (EC). Among them, 43 are election observers from the European Union. Additionally, 22 observers from the Commonwealth have also arrived in the island. The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) has sent six observers.

Furthermore, 34 more observers from the European Union and three additional observers from ANFREL are expected to arrive in the country soon.

Seven representatives from neighbouring countries are also participating in the election monitoring process this time.

The Election Commission stated that the observation teams currently in the country have already commenced preliminary monitoring activities in all 22 electoral districts.
