Over 90 MPs apply for Madiwela scheme houses
A senior Parliament official revealed that 94 new MPs have submitted applications to obtain housing in the Madiwela MP’s official housing complex by yesterday (28) evening.
There are 120 houses in the Madiwela MPs housing complex, of which only 112 are given to public representatives. The other houses have been reserved since the past for the use of employees of the departments that provide the services to the housing complex.
It is planned to give these houses to the MPs who have submitted applications by December 3 when the new Parliamentary sessions begin. However, some houses are still being repaired and a group of people’s representatives elected to this Parliament who represented the last Parliament are currently living in those houses, the official revealed.
Those MPs should also send applications for re-housing. Most who have sent applications for housing are representatives of the National People’s Power. The fact that the relevant MPs or wives are living within forty kilometers from Colombo and the fact that the MPs or wives do not use other official residences are the main factors that are taken into account when providing MPs with houses. Accordingly, MPs who live more than 40 kilometers away and beyond can apply for these houses.
