Overflowing Nilwala River causes floods
On December 11, due to torrential rain in Deniyaya, Morawaka, Pitabeddara, Akuressa and other areas, the Nilwala River overflowed causing massive floods.
The flood situation was increasing as of yesterday (14).
The people living on both sides of the Akuressa – Athuraliya – Kadduwa Malimbada main road have been affected. A total of 12,000 acres of paddy in the Matara district has also been completely destroyed.
The floods started on September 28 and has continued until now.
