Ovin Askey – excellent captain and place kicker
He has a tremendous passion when it comes for the sport of rugby that keeps him pushing forward in life together with having a fabulous academic background behind him after obtaining seven A’s and two– B’s in the GCE O/L exam as well.
Today Daily News will feature this young hard working and dedicated rugby star Askey, who is a naturally gifted leader. and a brilliant place kicker who kicked his team to victory on many occasions
“As a youngster hunting to fly high in sports I look into my famous father Roshen Askey who has excelled in athletics, breaking many records in the 800 and 400-metre individual events, while representing Royal College Colombo in the “Sir John Tarbet” All Island Athletic Meet in Sri Lanka.. He is my inspiration. He was behind me and motivated me to get into the world of sports”.
“All my immediate family members along with my coaches Sanath Martis, Dushanth Lewke, Akila Perera, Sunimal Manamperi, Supun Warnakulasuriya, my under 18 head coach Buddhika Kulathunga, Sashika Cooray (under 18 coach), Fijian Fereti Verabula and all my past junior coaches has supported me,
hence I’m always grateful to all of them as well.”
“My most unforgettable moment was when I lifted the Bradby Shield and the Singer Trophy A Division rugby league championship under my captaincy for Royal College Colombo in 2017and the best compliment i have ever received was when I put over the difficult touch line penalty in the last minute of play, in the previous year my head coach Sanath Martis told me – Bradby Shield remains with our school

“So far am totally happy with all my achievements in such a young age, my favourite holiday destination will be undoubtedly USA, Australia and New Zealand”.
“In my leisure time I like to read books and watch movies and my favourite movie is ‘Brooklyn’ and i normally don’t compare myself to any one, as I do like to be what I am”. “My whole family is my main priority and also to complete my higher studies in the future is my other top priority.”
On a concluding note Askey said that he likes to describe himself as a natural gifted leader. who is able to get the best from his team mates.
