Paddy farmers assured of fertilizer subsidy
Rs. 1,292 Mn credited to farmers accounts :
Rs. 15,000 in first phase, Rs. 10,000 later:
Agriculture Commissioner General Rohana Rajapaksa stated that the government has already credited Rs.1292 million to farmers accounts under the programme of providing fertilizer subsidy for paddy farmers.
He said that this allocation was made to 109,000 paddy farmers in 22 districts. According to the Agricultural Commissioner General, the most beneficiaries of this fertilizer subsidy were reported from Ampara District and Rs.291 million has been provided to 19,900 farmers.
He further said that an amount of Rs.540 million was again requested from the Treasury for providing fertilizer subsidy for paddy farmers yesterday, Plans have been made to provide that amount to 47,553 farmers in 22 districts.
“Farmers should not be worried about this fertilizer subsidy.
We will make arrangements to provide the fertilizer subsidy as soon as their cultivation for the upcoming Maha Season begins. There is no delay. We started providing this subsidy on October 14. Since then, we have been given this fertilizer subsidy to 109,000 farmers in 22 districts.
In the first phase, farmers will get Rs.15,000 per hectare. In the second phase, Rs.10,000 will be credited to the farmer’s accounts. Normally, the subsidy is given to the farmers in the first phase when the cultivation of paddy fields starts. But farmers requested from us to provide this subsidy to them before the cultivation.Then steps were taken to provide this subsidy for them.
