Palitha Bandara to make debut at Tokyo Para Games

The 28-year-old, currently attached to the National Defence Regiment of Sri Lanka Army will compete in the F-42 shot-put event.

The former schoolboy of Villawana MV, Matale first came into the limelight at the 2018 Army Para Games where he set up two new meet records in the shot-put and discus throw with a performance of 40.30m and 12.80m respectively.

He also won the Silver Medal in the javelin throw event at the same meet and was named as the Best Para Athlete.

“In 2011, I met with an accident and my left leg was badly injured. As a result I was attracted to para sport and I gave priority to throwing events.” “When I set up two meet records at the 2018 Army Para Games I built up a lot of confidence to take part in international meets.”

Bandara achieved a distance of 13.42m at the World Para Grand Prix in Dubai last February and qualified for the Tokyo Games.
