Parents face jail term for child’s death
Two parents in Badalgama could face jail time after they allegedly tried to save their sick 10 year old son with prayers instead of taking him to a hospital.
The 10-year-old came down with a cold with excess mucus being detected on February 7, but the parents opted to treat him themselves with prayers as per their religious beliefs instead of seeking medical attention or hospitalisation, police said.
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the Police rushed to the boy’s house at Andimulla in Badalgama on Wednesday evening after neighbours informed of a stench emanating from the house.
Police had found the decomposing body of the child on a bed with the parents and the grandmother of the 10-year-old boy still praying to bring their son back from the dead.
The Police had arrested both the parents and the grandmother of the child. The Police said the incident has been reported to the Negombo Magistrate and a post mortem has been ordered.
