Parliament Committee System needed to rebuild economy – Opposition Leader
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa proposed the Government to establish a Parliament Committee System (PCS) to enable all MPs irrespective of their Party differences and help the Government to rebuild the country’s lost economy.
Addressing media the Opposition Leader said Government ministers and other MPs should see the plight of ordinary people who face immense hardships due to high cost of living and existing shortage of essential goods and therefore it is the duty of all parliamentarians to get together and work hard for the benefit of people. Premadasa said it is pity to say that most Government ministers and MPs are working to achieve their own goals and not to focus on development projects and to rebuild the country.
The Opposition Leader also highlighted on several decomposed and mutilated bodies had washed ashore during the last few days at the Galle Face sea area and said responsible authorities should speed up investigations into the cause for these deaths. He said in addition to these dead bodies many other killings have also been reported in the recent past even from other areas very often and law makers should be vigilant and take stringent measures to stop such happenings in the future.
Referring to the country’s current political atmosphere Premadasa said if the Government is unable go for a fresh parliamentary election to elect a new leadership the Government should go for another permanent solution to rebuild the country’s economy to prosper the lives of people who are currently leading a miserable life due to escalating prices of essential commodity items.
