Parliament House Keeping Dept official interdicted
Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera said that over 10 complaints have been received in connection to the incident where sexual harassment has been reported by many staff attached to the House Keeping Department in Parliament.
“ The Assistant Manager of the Dept, who is connected to the incident, has been interdicted and all connected to the incident will be dealt with severely,” the Secretary General said.
“The initial inquiry was held last Monday and the Assistant Manager was interdicted last Friday,” she said.Subsequent to the initial inquiry another investigation has commenced and the report of which will be submitted to the Speaker, she said.
Following this incident it is now being considered to separate the House Keeping Dept. from the Restaurant Dept. and be put under the administration of the Management.
Investigations have found that due to the system in which these two departments have been operating together has resulted adversely for such incidents to take place. Disciplinary action is now being considered even on those who have alleged to have not taken action to prevent such incidents and those who supported such to happen.
