Pastor Jerome Fernando who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department for making controversial statements that led to create disharmony among the followers of other religions was ordered to be further remanded till December 27.

The CID filing a report in court cited that the suspect had committed an offence under ICCRP Act by making controversial statements on April 30 at the Miracle Dome belonging to him. The investigators urged the court to further remand the suspect as the investigation into the incident is still going on.

A team of lawyers led by Anuja Premaratne and Ronald Perera cited that their client had not committed any offence that comes under ICCPR Act and pleaded the court to release him on bail under any kind of bail. The magistrate rejected the bail application following an extensive submission made by the lawyers.

The CID informed the court that the suspect was arrested based on a complaint made by Buddhist Information Centre Executive Director Ven.Angulugalle Siri Jinanada Thera and produced the sermon made by the pastor to the court.
