Pastor’s house robbed in Kandana, loss of around Rs.20 Mn
Kandana Police have launched an investigation into a burglary of Pastor Kingsley Wanigasinghe’s house in Rilaulla in Kandana and stealing jewellery and money worth about Rs.20 million. Wanigasinghe serves as the head pastor of several congregations.
A thief had broken into the house between 6pm and 8pm on February 19 when the Priest together with his wife and daughter had gone to a church service at a church in Weligampitiya. However, he had complained to the Police on March 8.
The Police said the thief had entered the house by breaking a window.
The Priest had told the Police that Rs. 2.8 million in local currency, foreign currency worth about Rs.3.3 million and gold jewellry valued about 65 pounds had been stolen. Perfume bottles and foreign-manufactured shoes were among the stolen items. The total value of stolen property is about Rs 19.7 million.
The pastor has close connections with many public figures. Police are investigating the incident with the help of the recordings of security cameras in neighbouring houses.
