The case filed against Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Patali Champika Ranawaka and two others for an alleged motor accident that took place in 2016 at Rajagiriya, was fixed for further trial on March 7 by the Colombo High Court.

When the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatta, President’s Counsel Sarath Jayamanna appearing for accused Ranawaka requested Court to postpone the hearing of the trial as they needed some time to examine the documents related to the case.

Following the request made by the defence, Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Pieris strongly opposed the request and said that the defence is trying to deliberately postpone the proceedings of the case.

Considering the facts, Colombo High Court Judge rejected the request made by the defence and ordered the trial to continue. Prosecution witness Dayananda Gunawardena, father of Sandeep Sampath who was seriously injured in the road accident was cross-examined and concluded his testimony yesterday.

The case will be taken up again on March 7 for further trial.
