Pathum Nissanka the cricketing star from Kalutara
Right hand batsman Pathum Nissanka, who can play all Formats in cricket tests one dayers and Twenty20, justified his selection by scoring three fine knocks against Ireland – 61, South Africa – 72 and West Indies – 51 which included a fine 91 run partnership with Charith Asalanka, which eventually paved the way for the fantastic win over the defending champions West Indies by 20 runs .
He was originally from Kalutara Vidyalaya and later joined Isipathana College where he shone afterwards.
He scored a double century (205) off 190 balls against Presidents College Rajagiriya during a very successful school cricket season and then joined Badureliya CC and NCC respectively.
He was named in the Sri Lanka A squad and become the leading scorer by getting 258 runs in two matches.He also scored 1000 runs in the 2018/2019 premier league tournament playing for NCC Right hand batsman Pathum Nissanka, highly impressed coach Mickey Arthur, with his ability to play the sheet anchor role.
He finished the tournament as the leading run scorer for NCC with 1088 runs in seven matches.
Pathum made his debut for Sri Lanka in a test match against West indies, In the second innings of the match he made an exceptional knock of 103 runs. Nissanka became the fourth batsman to score a century on debut in test Cricket for Sri Lanka. The others being Brendon Kuruppu 201 n.o. versus New zealand, Romesh Kaluwitharana 132 n.o. versus Australia, Thilan Samaraweera103 n.o. versus India. It was the first century scored by a Sri Lankan batsman away from home on his test debut.
He was added to the Sri Lanka squad for ICC mens Twenty20 showed tremendous potential with his inclusion and justified it by playing valuable knocks both in the warm up matches as well as in super 12 matches.
