PC arrested for hiding son’s girlfriend after rape charges

Moneragala Police arrested a Police Constable attached to the Bibile Police Station on August 8 for taking out a 14-year-old girl admitted to Sirigala hospital admitted for a medical report regarding rape.

This constable a resident of Lindakumbura area had taken her out on his motorcycle from the hospital. His 20-year-old son has been in a relationship with the 14-year-old girl from Kotagama. As a result, the Police officer’s son had eloped with his girlfriend on February 26.

The girl’s mother had filed a complaint at Bibile Police Station. Accordingly, the two have presented themselves at the Police Station on August 8 during the investigation. During the questioning of the girl, it was revealed that she had been raped. Accordingly, Bibile police officers have arrested the police officer’s son. The girl was admitted to Sirigala Hospital by the police for a medical examination. This Constable had taken the girl from the hospital to a relative’s house and hid her in order to save his son from being remanded.

The Sirigala Hospital authorities have also lodged a complaint with the Monaragala police regarding the girl’s disappearance from the hospital. According to the complaint, during the investigation, it was revealed that the girl’s boyfriend’s father, the constable, had taken the girl away from the hospital, and the police arrested him and found the girl as well.

A senior police officer said that an investigation is underway into the incident and disciplinary action will be taken against the police officer.
