PC hospitalised after being stabbed in the neck by Monk

The Police Constable (PC) from Deniyaya Police Station who was seriously injured in a knife attack by a monk, near Sambodhi Elders’ Home, Gangoda Road, Pallegama, Deniyaya, has been admitted to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. Yesterday (16), around 2 pm, PC 89411Wirittamulla Gamage Dhanushka of Udagomadiya, Katuwana, was riding his personal motorcycle while on official duty, met the monk, aged 17, near Sambodhi Elder’s Home, at the monk’s request. An argument had broken out between the two, when the monk took a knife hidden in his bag and struck the PC on the neck.

The PC was admitted to Deniyaya Base Hospital, and as his condition was serious, he had been transferred to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

Deniyaya Police have arrested the monk, and investigations are continuing.
