Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) Kandy District Parliamentarian Velu Kumar yesterday said that the people are now counting the days until an election is held to oust the Government.
“The people are undergoing immense suffering and they could not even imagine what would happen in the next three years,” he said.
The Parliamentarian was addressing a media briefing held in Kandy yesterday (28).
He said further that as of now there are crises prevailing in several sectors including power and fuel and that the Government has absolutely no ability to provide solutions for them.
MP Velu Kumar said that while one faction of the Government is saying that there was no shortage of fuel and no power cuts will be imposed, another section of the Government states that there is a shortage of fuel and that power cuts have to be imposed.
Despite the Government’s promise to pay a daily wage of Rs.1000 to estate workers, now the Minister in charge is saying that only Rs.800 can be paid per day.
The MP also stated that while the Cost of Living (CoL) is increasing daily, the Government is working towards depriving estate workers of the wages they were receiving.
He added that the plantation community is now well aware that they will not get any relief under the present Government which is destroying the tea cultivation which brings in dollars to the country.
