Second Generation organization leader Uvindu Wijeweera said that giving the power to administer justice to the people or to politically affiliated groups as stated by National People’s Power’s Lal Kantha is not feasible or practical.
He opined that a country should have accredited institutions that enforce the law and the related process should be done according to a formal method.
He was speaking to the media during an event to obtain public signatures protesting over several issues including the implementation of the ETCA Agreement and the 13th Amendment.
Speaking further Wijeweera emphasized that it is not wrong to create institutions and create village councils or similar system for the convenience of administration, but it is problematic to hand over what is done by the law or the courts without proper procedure or control to the people.
He said that the leaders of all the parties represented in the current parliament have formed governments or contributed to the formation of governments and there is no party leader among the 225 members of this parliament who has not held a ministerial position in any government.
Wijeweera said that because of this, none of the party leaders representing the current Parliament can say they are not responsible for destruction caused to the country in the past seventy years and added people have rejected them and are looking for a new political force.
