Pera Allied Health Science Union President suspended for insulting VC
The President of the Allied Health Sciences Faculty Student’s Union of the Peradeniya University has been suspended from the campus over statements he made that damaged the reputation of the university.
His studentship has been suspended and he has been informed to leave the university premises immediately by the university administration.
During a student demonstration held on Thursday in front of the university’s Senate building, the student in question made insulting statements about the university authorities, Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.D.Lamawansa said in a press release in this regard.
Pointing out that the reputation of the university and the students has been tarnished, the Vice-Chancellor has also stated in the press release that the president’s student status will be
suspended until the inquiry into the related incidents are completed.
In addition to this, the university has taken action to cancel the studentship of five other students and suspend them for two weeks.
An investigation was conducted regarding an incident in which a group of Allied Health Faculty students of the Jaffna University was called to the Peradeniya University and provided
accommodation in a common room of the Allied Health Science Faculty without any approval from the administration and the relevant punishment has been specified.
A group of Allied Health Science Faculty students had launched a protest in front of the Confirmation Hall on September 28 against this action. It was during this protest, that the
President of Student’s Union had insulted the Vice-Chancellor and the administration using profanity.
