Pera Uni. suspends Deputy Finance, Project Managers for alleged fraud
The University of Peradeniya (UoP) Senate has initiated the suspension of its Deputy Finance Manager (DFM) and its Project Manager (PM), for alleged financial irregularities,
These financial frauds were recently discussed by the COPE committee, while the UoP administration was accused of formal inaction in this regard.
The DFM has been accused of taking Rs 7 million from his late wife’s provident fund, salary arrears and allowances. His wife died suddenly while a Professor at UoP. The PM has been accused of submitting falsifying prices in connection with the construction of the UoP’s Arunachalam hall. He had, reportedly, sent his letter of resignation to the administration, before being suspended.
An investigation has been initiated pertaining to the allegations against these two employees of the non-academic staff of the UoP. The Senate has decided that it is appropriate to suspend their services pending the investigation, as their continued employment could hinder the investigations.
