Peradeniya lecturer dies after drowning

Dr. Buddhika Dasanayake, a senior lecturer in the Physics Department of the Peradeniya University who was receiving treatment at the ICU of the Balapitiya Hospital, after nearly drowning in the seas off Ahungalla, died yesterday.

He had been swept out to sea while walking along the Ahungalla beach on December 16.

The 44-year-old lecturer who was rescued by a group of bystanders was at the ICU of the Balapitiya Hospital for nine days. He had been staying at a star class hotel in Ahungalla for the holidays.
