Perform or depart without delay ultimatum at awards ceremony
The State Minister of Home Affairs Ashoka Priyantha said that if anybody cannot accomplish the responsibility of the duty assigned, then that person should take a decision in a short time about their continuity in the service. He said this at the awarding ceremony of appointments for Colombo District Registrars of Births, Deaths and Marriages which was held on 21 August 2023 at Temple Trees with the participation of the Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
Speaking on this occasion Ashoka Priyantha, State Minister of Home Affairs stated that, Majority of the community have the attitude of obtaining education in this country, enjoying the privileges, earning incomes, raising children and leaving the country. We must gather our strength to reconstruct the country in this difficult time. All of us have an equal responsibility to fulfil the requirements of our nation. Serve the public without inconveniencing them. Do not misuse your position.
When we take part in the mobile services in the rural areas, we experience several issues with the courts. Even a punctuation mark might raise a problematic situation in court. Even very trivial matters should be noted carefully. If the three copies are written in three different ways, it can be a big problem. The Prime Minister has not influenced any of these works even with a single word. No matter how much power is invested within us, we have given you the opportunity to get these positions fairly without being influenced by the powers vested with you. Further, if you cannot properly accomplish the responsibility of your position to serve the people, please make a decision within a short period of time.
A set of instructions has been issued to all the registrars. Accordingly, we hope to request the permission from the Prime Minister to implement a system of deducting marks based on deficiencies and dereliction of responsibility. This country has been built in this way at present, because of the sacrifices made by great statesmen like the father of Dinesh Gunawardena, who shed blood, tears and sweat as a national hero to save this motherland.”
MPs Gamini Lokuge, Yadamini Gunawardena, Secretary to Ministry of Public Administration, Ranjith Ashoka, Colombo District Secretary K. G. Wijesiri, and Registrar General W.R. Wijesinghe participated at this event.
