Peterite Champions win by seven wickets

Past Cricketers of St. Peter’s College formed a newly 50 plus team named Peterite Champions elected Ranmore Martinez to Captain the side against the Legends of Richmond, in their inaugural Masters 25 overs game which they won by seven wickets, at the Arons County Club Horana last weekend.

Legends of Richmond batted first and openers Lasantha de Silva and Asoka Sirimanne took them to a fine start and with the dismissals of Asoka Sirimanne for 21 runs and Lasantha de Silva for 22 runs, the other top order batters falling at regular intervals, C.k.Hewamanna coming in the middle order pushed the score with a valuable 34 runs and also Saman stroking a well compiled 27 runs got them to a reasonable total. Indika was the pick of the bowlers capturing three scalps along with Ranmore Martinez and Niranjan Dabare claiming one wicket each.

Peterite Champions chasing this modest total, openers Damian Tissaratchy and Indunil Anthony got the score pushing from the start and Damian Tissaratchy made a decision to retire stroking a splendid knock of 29 runs and T. Chandrasekera joining Indunil Anthony got few more runs on the board and with his dismissal ,Susan Bandara and Indunil Anthony, together took the score past the target with both playing elegant knocks of 26 not out and 32 not out respectively to give them a win with three overs to spare. Asoka Sirimanne took the bowling honours.
