Petition filed by 39 politicians over May 09 incidents withdrawn

The State Counsel appearing on behalf of the Attorney General informed Court yesterday that they have received an assurance from the Minister of Public Security that there will be a formal investigation regarding the incidents of attacking and setting fire to the homes of politicians on May 9 last year and secondly, the Secretary to the President has given an undertaking that the Wasantha Karnagoda Committee report which investigated the incidents will be brought to the attention of the President.

Accordingly, the Writ Petition filed by a group of Ministers and Parliamentarians requesting an order to conduct an investigation into the incident, was withdrawn yesterday (22).

The petitioners stated that they are withdrawing the petitions as they are satisfied with the notice given by the Deputy Solicitor General who appeared for the Attorney General.

The case was heard before Court of Appeal President Judge N. Bandula Karunaratne and Appeal Court Judge M.A.R. Marikkar.
