PHC restrains SLFP Chairman from removing

The Provincial High Court (PHC) of Colombo yesterday (1) issued an Interim Order restraining SLFP Chairman,

former President Maithripala Sirisena and General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara from removing Ports Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva from the positions he held in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

After considering a petition filed by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, High Court Judges Frank Gunawardena and Chamath Moraes issued this Interim Order.

The Minister filed this case before Colombo District Court seeking a restraining order to suspend the decision to remove him from the positions of Senior Vice President, Central Committee Member, Politburo Member, Badulla District Leader and Organizer and Hali-ela Acting Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. The District Court, which considered the complaint, pending the issuance of an injunction to the defendant Maithripala Sirisena, issued only a notice and set a date for hearing the case.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva filed this appeal against the order of the District Court and obtained this Interim Order.
