Veyangoda Police said that a photojournalist died after being taken to the hospital with injuries caused by stabbing with a sharp weapon, on November 30.
The deceased was identified as Muthugala Arachchige Mahesh Gunasinghe (36), a father of two, residing at No. 104, Walpola, Raggahawila. It has been revealed that the deceased was a person who had worked at a major electronic news network from 2012 to 2014.
The deceased has gone to a house which operated as a hotel and beauty salon, located in Katuwasgoda, Veyangoda at 7.00 pm on November 30. It has also been revealed in preliminary investigations that the he died while being taken to the hospital by the couple who owned the place.Veyangoda Police said that the body of the murdered person had cut wounds.
The husband and wife who own the house were called to the Veyangoda Police Station for questioning and the reason for the murder has not yet been revealed, according to the Veyangoda police.
The murdered person came to the hotel on a motorcycle and that motorcycle was also seen parked in front of the house.
It has also been revealed that he had gone to work and returned home yesterday after three days. At around 6.30 pm, the deceased left the house saying that he was going to bring food. The police had also taken steps to investigate if evidence such as blood stains had been removed, in the house.The police said that they are conducting investigations regarding a phone call the deceased cameraman got before left the house. The police said that they have not been able to find the iphone that he had.
The police also stated that the young woman in the house where the incident happened was a beauty salon worker and the cameraman who died was a wedding photographer, so they suspect that it was a conflict over money. The body has been deposited in the mortuary of Wathupitiwala Base Hospital and the magisterial inquest was scheduled to be held at 1.00 pm yesterday
