The Piliyandala Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society (MPCS) fuel shed which was temporarily shut down by Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and taken under their control, due to malpractice and fraudulent activities carried out by a pumper, will be reopened for sale of fuel from today (7), a CPC senior officer when contacted by the Daily News said yesterday (06).

Sales at the Piliyandala Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society petrol shed will be carried out by CEYPETCO staff and not by the cooperative society staff from today onwards, the CPC official said.

The CPC Measurement Unit Standards and Services Department officers who have the authority to open and seal the fuel pumps will assess correct measurements of the internal functions and units of the fuel pumps and will check the main boards and calibration of the fuel pumps in the morning hours today to ensure they are functioning accurately and then re-seal the fuel pumps before fuel distribution sales begin.

Once corrective measures are completed by the CPC Measurement Unit Standards and Services Department officers, the Piliyandala cooperative fuel shed will be re-opened for customers with sales commencing from the afternoon today, the CPC senior official said.

CEYPETCO being a Government entity has taken swift measures to re-commence sales at the Piliyandala Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society fuel shed replacing cooperative staff with CPC staff after carrying out corrective measures on the fuel pumps to prevent any fraud taking place, as CPC is responsible for the money customers pay and wants to assure that correct fuel quantities are issued for the money paid at all their fuel stations located countrywide, the CPC senior official emphasized.

Meanwhile, two CPC teams have been already deployed in the Colombo District for random checking of fuel pumps and one CPC team has been deployed for random checking of CEYPETCO fuel stations in other districts, which will be carried out under the supervision of the CEYPETCO Managing Director, the senior CPC official added.

CPC has nearly 30 area managers to oversee the operations of their fuel stations located countrywide.

Separate parallel investigations by CPC and Piliyandala Police on the fuel distribution fraud incident that took place recently at the Piliyandala Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society fuel shed are continuing.
