Pistol, jewellery worth millions stolen from Businessman’s house
The Bambalapitiya Police have started an extensive investigation regarding the theft of a licensed pistol and more than Rs.30 million worth cash and jewellery from a house in Bambalapitiya belonging to a businessman involved in vehicle sales. The theft had taken place between 1.30 pm and 3.15 pm on December 16. The 72-year-old businessman reported this to the police on the same evening.
The stolen pistol bears the serial number CZ75BA031. The thief has also taken 12 ammunitions used for that weapon. Police said that when the theft took place, the owner’s wife and two maids were present in the house and none of them saw the theft.
The businessman went to his place of business at around 10 in the morning and came back for lunch and left home at around 1.50 in the evening.
While he was staying at his work place, his wife made a phone call at around 3.18 in the evening and said that the clothes in the closet in the room where the maid was staying had been pulled. Accordingly, when the businessman came home and checked, it was found that the thief had also entered his room.
It has been found that the businessman’s bedroom is located on the top floor of the three-storeyed house and the thief entered the house through the bathroom window.The police are investigating.
