The Minister was speaking at a press briefing during his official visit to Russia.
During his visit, SriLankan Airlines officially resumed flight operations with Russia after a break of six years.
The Minister said that flight operations between two countries were halted during the former Yahapalana regime.
However, the present Government decided to commence direct flights to several destinations in other countries in the future and that will be done shortly,” he added.
Recommencing flights between Russia and Sri Lanka is important to us at a time when the global travel industry is seeing a gradual revival. We hope that our flights between the two countries build a window of opportunity for both countries in terms of trade and tourism.” he added.
