Plans to build 25,000 houses with solar power for needy Northerners
Twenty five thousand houses each worth Rs. 50,000 with Solar Power Electricity are to be built for underprivileged Northerners soon.
A discussions were held with the participation of the Co-Chairman of Northern Province Development Committee and Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda, to look into the matters regarding the building of 25,000 houses with Solar Power Electricity, each worth Rs. 50,000, as per the concept of President Wickremesinghe to build houses for the poor people in the Northern Province on Friday (1).
At the discussion, cooperative societies made the Minister aware of the shortage of sugar in the Jaffna District, and the current stocks are not sufficient to distribute to the people in the Northern Province. Minister Devananda contacted Trade and Commerce Minister Nalin Fernando and as a result of this discussion, a decision was taken to send an additional 100 metric tons of sugar to Northern Province. The Minister has taken measures to distribute this stock to 48 Cooperative Societies in the Northern Province.
A group of officials including Jaffna District Secretary Ambalavanar Sivabalasundaram, Additional District Secretary Maruthalingam Pratheepan and the Divisional Secretaries of Jaffna District attended the discussion held at the District Secretariat, Jaffna.
