Plot to kill Shani in pre-arranged accident: AG
The Attorney General informed the Court of Appeal yesterday (4) that there was a conspiracy to murder the former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Shani Abeysekara in a pre-arranged vehicle accident.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Rohantha Abeysuriya, who appeared for the Attorney General, stated this when a writ petition filed by Abeysekara against not providing him with proper protection was called.
ASG Abeysuriya stated that as per the earlier order of the court, the Intelligence Division of the Victim and Witness Protection Authority had prepared an evaluation report regarding the security of Abeysekara.
The ASG said that the report revealed that there was a conspiracy to murder Shani Abeysekara in a pre-arranged vehicle accident.
He also mentioned that an agreement has been reached before the court that adequate protection should be provided for the petitioner Shani Abeysekara.
The ASG said that in addition to the police protection provided to Shani Abeysekara, steps were taken earlier to provide more officers and motorcycles.
Upul Jayasuriya PC, who appeared for Shani Abeysekara, said that the police protection provided to him so far is not adequate.
After considering the facts, the bench decided to call the case again on December 14 to make a suitable order regarding this request.
