PM discusses current situation of health services with Ministry officials

A special discussion was held yesterday (1) at the Health Ministry under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Health Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya to discuss the current situation of health services in Sri Lanka and the steps to be taken.

The following were discussed at the meeting: the primary health services in Sri Lanka; the vaccination programme; the nutritional status of all people including children and mothers; the availability of medicines; communicable and non-communicable diseases; health education programmes to raise awareness among the people; the problems of the health staff and the approval of the staff based on the need for services; procurement of medicines; strengthening Ayurvedic treatment services and providing related facilities; and procurement of essential medical equipment.

The Minister stated that there is an excellent health service in Sri Lanka at present, and due to the hard work of all the health staff who operate the service, the health service in Sri Lanka is at the same level as that of developed countries. Prime Minister Dr. Amarasuriya also stated that the main objective of the new government is to find solutions to any issues affecting it.

Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena and Ayurveda Commissioner General Dr. Dhammika Abeygunawardena, as well as all additional secretaries and deputy directors general of the Health Ministry participated in the discussion.
