PM to lead political alliance backing President
- Broad alliance of political parties and groups
- MPs from SLPP, SLFP and SJB too joining

The Leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena is slated to lead the new political alliance formed by the combination of political parties and groups supporting President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the upcoming Presidential Election.
A decision has been reached in this regard, sources said.
The breakaway parties from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), the MEP led by Prime Minister Gunawardena, the group led by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), a breakaway group from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party, the Eelam People’s Democratic Party and several other political parties have already expressed their support to the President who is contesting the upcoming Presidential Election as an independent candidate.
Political sources also revealed that since several other political parties and groups are going to support the President in the next few days, this new alliance will be unveiled with the participation of leaders from all those parties and groups shortly.
