PNF files FR challenging Cabinet formation

A Fundamental Rights petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking an Interim Order challenging the manner in which the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed the present Cabinet, stating it is contrary to the legal provisions.

The petition was yesterday filed by the Secretary of the Professionals National Front of Sri Lanka (PNF), Engineer Kapila Renuka Perera through Attorney Dharshana Weraduwage.

The Petition has named 82 respondents including Attorney General for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Cabinet Ministers, State Ministers, Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Finance Ministry.

The petition states that the manner in which the President has appointed the present Cabinet and State Ministers is contrary to Articles 47 (1) (a) and (b) of the Constitution.
