Police arrest absconding SLPP PS member
Aluthgama Police has arrested a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member of the Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha who was absconding after allegedly being involved in an accident while driving in which a 10-year-old boy sustained severe injuries, on the Kaluwamodara Mullapitiya Road off Aluthgama a few days ago.
According to Aluthgama Police, the suspect was in hiding since last Friday. The Aluthgama Police said that the 10-year-old boy who had gone to a market near his house at around 7 p.m. last Friday with his sister and was returning home when the incident occurred.
Police say that the boy was admitted to Beruwala Hospital and then transferred to the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital.
Police say the boy sustained serious leg and body injuries in the accident.
Police said since the day of the accident (12), they had gone to the suspect’s house on several occasions but found him missing along with his car. Police say that the suspect failed to surrender until he was arrested. Police will produce the suspect before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court today (16).
