Police have frozen properties and a bus worth approximately Rs. 33 million in two separate investigations into assets suspected to have been acquired using proceeds from drug trafficking.

The Illegal Assets Investigation Division arrested a 45-year-old resident of Eluwila, Panadura, on October 23 in connection with an investigation into alleged drug trafficking.

Police subsequently froze a two-story house and 13-perch property in Malamulla, Panadura, valued at approximately Rs. 20 million, along with two additional plots of land worth a combined Rs. 5 million.

The properties have been frozen for 14 days, effective October 23.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court on October 24.

Meanwhile, police also froze a bus valued at approximately Rs. 8 million, suspected to have been purchased using proceeds from drug trafficking.

The bus had previously been taken into police custody during investigations into the February 13 killing of a married couple at a parking facility in Thalangama.

Investigators suspect the bus was used to transport the gunman involved in the double murder.

The Illegal Assets Investigation Division is conducting further investigations into both cases.
