Police Ombudsman appointed
A Police Ombudsman has appointed to look into grievances of police officers, handle relevant complaints and also act on orders given by the IGP in related matters.
Accordingly, the Director in charge of the Police Grievance Division will be the Police Ombudsman and his duties and responsibilities are to deal with the grievances of the police officers as well as to comply with the duty orders issued by the IGP, the Police media spokesman’s office said. The statement said that a mechanism has been set up with the approval of the Ministry of Public Security, and under the guidance of the IGP, to restructure the Complaints Authority Division under the new administrative structure of the Sri Lanka Police and to resolve the problems of police officers.
The Police Grievance Authority Division has been established at the Police Headquarters and a grievance redressed day is to be held at the Police Headquarters every Friday under the patronage of the Inspector General of Police.The IGP’s Relief Room provides an opportunity for an officer to lodge a grievance directly with the IGP.
