Police on lookout for suspects who stormed into Rupavahini
The Cinnamon Garden Police informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that investigations have been initiated to arrest the suspects who had recently stormed into the national television channel Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and forcibly appeared on a live programme.
The police have been perusing CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
The police also informed the Magistrate that they have recorded several statements from the staff of the SLRC regarding the incident and have been able to identify two of the activists.
Furthermore, the police stated that the protesters have threatened and intimidated the journalists and demanded to be featured on a live programme.
A senior police officer said that if the currently identified suspects try to leave the country, necessary measures will be taken to obtain travel bans against them.
The officer mentioned that the intelligence agencies are also constantly monitoring these people and the law will be implemented against them in the next few days.
The officer further said that apart from the two who appeared forcibly on the live television programme, there are also those who entered the premises of the television corporation and threatened the staff.
