Police raid Bogawantalawa wedding ceremony

The Bogawantalawa Police and the Bogawantalawa Health Medical Officer’s Office have taken steps to disperse about 100 people who had attended a wedding held at a hall in the Bogawantalawa area today (20) against health instructions.

Police said that the wedding was held at a function hall in the Ariyapura area in Bogawantalawa violating the current COVID-19 laws.

Earlier following a request, Public Health Inspectors had given permission to register a marriage at the place with the participation of a limited number of relatives of the bride and groom.

However, later they had received information that instead of just the registration a wedding was taking place with a large gathering.

The raid was carried out by the Bogawantalawa Police and the Public Health Inspectors on a tip off received by the Bogawantalawa Police.
