Police raids on fuel hoarders intensified
Police during a 24-hour countrywide raid recovered 1,441 liters of petrol, 1,109 liters of diesel and nine liters of kerosene that were illegally hoarded by individuals by 6 a.m. yesterday (31), police said.
According to the Police Media Spokesman, SSP Nihal Thladuwa, police have conducted 31 raids during this period and arrested 33 suspects along with fuel.
So far, police have conducted a total of 1,220 raids throughout the country in search of fuel illegally hoarded by the individuals for selling it at the black market and 1,145 suspects have been taken into custody.
The total amount of fuel recovered during these raids are 38,030 liters of petrol, 123, 945 liters of diesel and 19, 239 liters of kerosene.
Legal action will be taken against the suspects in due course, police said.
