Police report to court on missing files of three elephants

Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday ordered the Police Special Investigation Division director to obtain a statement from former President

Maithripala Sirisena regarding the illegal handing over of the elephants Kandula, Mangala and Kanchana, who were in the custody of the Wildlife Department, to a defendant in such a case.

The Magistrate made this order when the case was taken before the Fort Magistrate’s court yesterday.

Police informed the court that they had received two statements from former President’s Additional Secretary Kingsley Fernando who had told the police that the original file should be examined to give a statement regarding the incident.

Police informed the court that the file regarding the three elephants in question is not in the Presidential Secretariat and has been misplaced.
