A Police Sergeant attached to the Police Divisional Crimes Investigation Unit of Polonnaruwa, who was arrested while soliciting a bribe of Rs.10,000 from the owner of a cattle slaughterhouse, was ordered to be remanded till March 7 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.
The Bribery Commission informed the Magistrate that the suspect had requested the bribe in order to abstain from taking legal action against the complainant on illegal functions of his slaughterhouse and beef business.
It was reported that the arrested Police officer had been accepting bribes from the businessman for some time.
The Bribery Commission requested to remand the suspect as the preliminary investigation has not been concluded yet.
