Police still to identify culprits, court told

The Police yesterday informed the Anuradhapura Magistrate Courts that they have still not identified those involved in the incident where the private vehicle of Anuradhapura District Parliamentarian and actor Uddika Premaratne was shot at recently in front of his house in Anuradhapura.

The Police informed the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Nalaka Jayasuriya that the probe to identify the suspects was continuing.

The Chief Magistrate also instructed the Anuradhapura Police to submit a progress report to him on the ongoing probe into the incident.

In their report the Police stated that that an unidentified group had opened fire targeting the Parliamentarian near his residence during the night of September 17. They told the Court that though the MP concerned had escaped unhurt the incident had resulted in his vehicle being damaged and said that investigations were being conducted from several angles.

The Police told Chief Magistrate Jayasuriya that statements had also been recorded from the MP and two security officers who had been deployed to provide protection to the MP.
