“Poor response from exporters to questionnaire”

Central Bank Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasing addressing the AGM said they had selected 100 exporters and sent questionnaires about conversion and remittance details and the response of 23 were satisfactory.

He further said that they got any kind of response from only 57 so far and most of them were vague answers. He said as a friend of the industry he would encourage exporters to come out and disclose the real facts and if they genuinely share what they have done the matter could be cleared up.

He said unless this is done the bad reputation will remain because allegations are going around that exporters are keeping money abroad. He said from next week onward they will be sending letters to those who didn’t respond again and if they still did not respond he will publish a list of those who responded and of the ones who did not.
