Port arson, murder suspect arrested after six years
The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) on Tuesday succeeded in arresting a Port employee who was involved in a crime of beating and killing an employee of the Colombo Port and setting fire to the rest room six years after the murder. The murder took place on December 8, 2016. The victim was an employee of the Colombo Port, a resident of Kelaniya Nuwan Jayathilaka.
Colombo Crime Division stated that the employee who was sleeping in the rest room was beaten to death and then poured petrol on the body and set it on fire so that the rest room would also be destroyed.
Initially, it was suspected that the employee died in the fire while sleeping in the restroom, but later it was revealed that it was a murder.
Accordingly, after assigning the investigation to the Colombo Crimes Division, after a long investigation, the suspect involved in this murder was identified and arrested by summoning him to the Colombo Crimes Division. A work assistant (46) working at the Colombo port, a resident of Mabodala Ulagama, has been arrested. The Colombo Crimes Division stated that he was remanded until April 4 after being presented to the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court yesterday (22).
