Post-mortem reveals factory watchman was strangulated

Ingiriya Police say that the death of the watchman of a rubber factory in Handapangoda area in Ingiriya, who was found two days after he went missing, was due to strangulation.

The deceased was a 69-year-old married man named Palliya Badige Premadasa, who resided in Padukka Niriyagalla.

The deceased was staying and working in the same factory and Police said that he suddenly disappeared around 10.30 am on Monday, August 7. After that, the owners and employees of the factory searched for him, but they were unable to find out any information, Police said.

The owner of a tea estate in front of that factory went to the estate and looked into the unsafe well without water surrounded by the forest to find out whether there were any coconuts fallen from the coconut trees and found the soles of a person’s feet floating on the surface of the water. Then the owners of the factory informed Police about it. Later on the orders of the Horana Acting Magistrate Kanthi Kannangara, the body was exhumed and taken to the Horana Base Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Forensic medical officer of the hospital, Dr.Panitha Seneviratne, conducted a post-mortem examination on August 10 and the medical reports revealed that the injuries inside the neck area of the deceased were not natural injuries but were caused by strangulation.Police are conducting investigations
