0 15

A senior government spokesman said that Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa had said during the Cabinet meeting on Monday (28) that the power cuts that are being experienced could be stopped from March 5.

The Finance Minister has stated that all crises facing the country can be resolved before the end of March and asked all Ministers to be patient until then. The transport, electricity and fuel crises were discussed at length at the Cabinet meeting chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa via Zoom technology, the spokesman said.

Stating that the fuel shortage faced by the transport sector needs to be addressed urgently, the Finance Minister said that the focus was on providing the opportunity to directly import fuel for trains and buses.

The spokesman further said a programme is being implemented to facilitate passenger transport and that the Ceylon Transport Board depots are also focusing on refuelling private buses and this will also prevent the use of kerosene in passenger buses.
