Prabodha Madhumashini does Vijayaba National School proud
Prabodha who hails from Hungama was born on 1st May 1992 and admitted to Vijayaba National School in 1998 when M. Ratnayake was at the helm of the school and Mrs. Dilani was her first class teacher and at the commencement of her school career from 1998 to 2003 she did not participate in any sports activities and in 2004 she showed some keenness to commence volleyball and her parents K. S. Dayasena and R. P. Indrani encouraged her and handed over their daughter to the school teacher in Charge of volleyball Mrs. Asoka in 2004.
Prabodha came under the school volleyball coach and Master in Charge Tharaka Rathnaweera. After hard and strenuous training and participating in the Divisional and Zonal Tournaments and practice matches in 2005 they took part in the Division, Zonal and Provincial Tournaments and after sweeping the board in these lower tournaments in 2006 they participated for the Major Tournaments in the under 16 age group they were able to grab the third place in the schools tournament.
In 2007 winning all the lower level tournaments and at the under 16 DSI Tournament they were the All Island Runner Up and in the All Island Schools Tournament too they got the second place and in the under 17 Schools Tournament in 2008 they came Runners Up and in the Mahaweli Tournament held in Polonnaruwa they were the Champions.
In the mean time she joined the Pubudu Vijayaba Volleyball Club Hungama and in no time she became an active member of the team and representing the club they were the second Runner Up at the Dialog Gold Cup Tournament and participating at the 27th Rupavahini Tournament her Club came third and at the All Island Inter Schools Tournament her school were the second Runner Up and in the same year at the All Island Schools Tournament they came third.
Tangalle Police Division organized a girls volleyball tournament for Tangalle District Schools with regard to the 150th anniversary of Sri Lanka Police and they were the unbeaten champions. Then in 2009 she participated along with Inosha Madushani for the Beach Volleyball Tournament and they were victorious and in 2010 in the Dayata Kirula Volleyball Tournament they came second.
Then in the same year they came second in the All Island Rupavahini Tournament and in the All Island Munchee Trophy respectively and in 2012 they participated for the 36th National Schools Sports Festival Tournament and in the National Schools 38th Festival tournament too all the members of the team received Southern Province volleyball colours. She sat for the Advanced Level Examination in 2011 and she passed with excellent results.
In athletics she took part in the School Sports Meets and in the 2011 Inter House Sports Meet she won the under 19 Putt Shot and 1,500 metre events. With all her deeds under her belt and sports activities she joined Teacher Training 2013/15 batch at the Uva National College of Education and out of the 18 training colleges in the country she was adjudged as the Best Athlete in 2016 at their Inter Training College Sports Meet.
