Pravindi wins both 200m, 400m in Youth Athletic trials
Pravindi Dunusinghe and R.P.G.A.T Rajapaksa both from Sri John Kotalawala MV excelled to win the girls and boys 400 m events at the selection trial for the Asian youth Championship conducted by Sri Lanka Athletics held at Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
Pravindi was placed first with 58.43 seconds while Nirmali Wickramasinghe of Wickramabahu MMV Gampola (59.19 sec) and Shehara Karunaratne of Lyceum Wattala ( 59.21 sec) were placed second and third in the girls 400 m final.
Rajapaksa finished with 50.45 seconds to win the boys 400m while P.S Jayathileka of Thurstan ( 51.22 sec) and R.R.K Maduranga of St Anne’s Kurunegala ( 51.48sec) were placed second and third places in the boys 400m event .Ranhida Alwis of Royal College Panadura was outstanding in the boys shot putt event finishing with a clear lead of 17.74 m.
Pravindi Dunusinghe once again excelled winning girls 200m event with a time of 26.03 seconds while M.J Wijesinghe of Ananda College was placed first with 23.28 seconds in boys 200m.Nehsadi Karunaratne of Taxila MV Horana won the girls shot putt with a distance of 11.81m while Madushani Herath of Nannapurawa MV Monaragala won girls Long jump with 5.73 m. Meanwhile Seneka Gunaratne of Colombo International School Kandy finished with 12.66 seconds to win the girls 100 m while Ayesh Maduranga of Mahinda College Galle finished with 10.94 seconds to win the boys 100 m finals. Ruwansa Weerakkody of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya and Indusara Vidushan of St Sebastian’s Moratuwa were placed second in the girls and boys 100m events.
Dulanjana Pradeepani of Wickramabahu MMV, Gampola with 5:11.57 seconds and S.N Ranaweera of Trinity with 4:17 .35 seconds won the boys and girls 1500m events respectively.
