President Wickremesinghe strengthens bilateral relations after extending good wishes to PM Modi
Foreign leaders including President Ranil Wickremesinghe extended their best wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he took oaths before Indian President Draupadi Murmu.
The two leaders had agreed to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi took place at the Rashtrapathi Bawan last evening and it was graced by regional leaders including President Ranil Wickremesinghe and other dignitaries.
Over 9000 guests attended the event including religious leaders, business personalities, artistes and intellectuals. President Ranil Wickremesinghe was seated between the leaders of Maldives and Mauritius. The visiting leaders were hosted for a special dinner after the swearing-in ceremony. Special attention had been paid by the Indian media to the attendance of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the area had been decorated with cutouts of visiting leaders including President Wickremesinghe. Prime Minister Modi posed for a special photograph with the visiting leaders after the swearing-in ceremony. It was notable that President Ranil Wickremesinghe was placed right next to Prime Minister Modi when the photograph was taken.
President Wickremesinghe was accompanied by President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, Foreign Ministry Secretary Aruni Wijewardena, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India Kshenuka Seneviratne, Director Government Information Department Dinith Chinthaka Karunaratne and President’s Private Secretary Sandra Perera.
